How to Deal With Disappointment in Friendship

How to Deal With Disappointment in Friendship

Let’s face it. No one’s perfect. Not your neighbor. Not your parents. And certainly not your friends. In fact, people closest to you are bound to disappoint you from time to time. How you handle the occasional disappointment in friendships will dictate how meaningful your long-term friendships are. Disappointments can range from small issues like petty disagreements to larger issues like your boyfriend cheated on you with your bestie. Depending on the severity of the issues, you’ll have to make a plan to restore the friendship or a find new friend to have an ugly cry with. Sometimes we just need to ask ourselves a few questions before we decide if it’s time to move on. Is it devastating enough that it will really matter in five years? So maybe she forgot to call you on your birthday. That’s definitely disappointing, but is it devastating enough that in five years you’ll still be fuming over it? Probably not. But if you find your friend kissing your fiancé, you probably have a case for the devastating qualifier. It’s important to remember that’s right now, the issue at-hand may seem very hurtful, but in the grand scheme of things, it may not be as painful as you feel in this very moment. Emotions fade over time, and you can see things more clearly. Try to think objectively and evaluate if this is life altering enough that it will impact you greatly in five years. Is this your friend’s normal behavior or is something else going on with her? Sometimes being a good friend means being the bigger person, especially when you...
5 Tips to a Better Mood in Less Than a Minute!

5 Tips to a Better Mood in Less Than a Minute!

We all need a quick pick-me-up now and then. Here’s our go-to list when we’re feeling a little down. 1. Light your favorite smelling candle and burn away those anxieties. Psychologists note that vanilla especially has the tendency to relax us as the scent moves through the air around us. 2. Throw on some lip gloss. Bonus points for fruity flavors! There’s something about shimmery, good smelling (and tasty) lips that just makes you smile. 3. Turn up the music. But not the loud angry kind that can encourage you to stay in a negative mindset. How about something fun that made you laugh with friends over the years? Memories are so closely tied to music that you can virtually time travel with the right playlist in hand. 4. Lather on that hand lotion you had tucked away for just this occasion. Keep it in your desk drawer, your backpack or some other place that’s always in arm’s reach. Lotions with sweet notes may be just the thing you need to lift your spirits with a little midday pampering. 5. Pop in that piece of gum. Research has shown that chewing gum can have positive effects on mental health, including helping you relax and calming anxieties. Less anxiety means a greater chance for a better mood! Choose your favorite from the list the next time you need a little mood boost, or be daring and try all of...
Ensure Your Car is Ready for the Winter Months

Ensure Your Car is Ready for the Winter Months

There are many things that occur when winter comes around.  One thing that often happens, and is often overlooked, is the amount of car troubles that come up.  Join us in being prepared this winter and staying ahead of the game.  The following are items that you should carry in your car during winter months when weather is a major threat.  Your safety is our priority. Portable charger. Cell phones are our lifelines these days, and they die.  Make sure that you have a portable charger available in the case of an emergency. Jumper cables. Cold temperatures can weaken your car battery.  You might notice when starting your car on cold winter mornings that your car can be sluggish.  Oftentimes the battery won’t die, but it definitely can.  So, make sure you have jumper cables in your car.  Then, if your battery were to ever die, you would be prepared. Warm blanket or blankets. I know it seems silly, but if you are stranded on the side of the road, with your car broken down, your heat may not work.  In addition, you will be begging for extra warmth until help arrives.  So, be sure you have several warm blankets in your car so you can bundle up and stay warm if you ever need to. A flashlight. I know, we all have our phones.  But again, what if it dies?  And honestly, even if your phone isn’t dead, that is not a feature that the phone has mastered yet.  The phone’s flashlight doesn’t even compare to the strength of an actual flashlight.  If it is dark, and you...
Reasons Procrastination Isn’t Good

Reasons Procrastination Isn’t Good

Putting things off seems like the easy way out.  But it’s not, trust me!  When you put things off to do at a later time, it will eventually sneak up on you and cause more trouble than if you just did it sooner.  Keep reading to find the reasons why you must quit procrastinating. It’s going to be a challenge whenever you do it.  A lot of times we procrastinate because it seems like the easier option.  Procrastination often stems from difficulty.  For example: writing that research paper seems too hard right now, so if I push it off… it may be better/easier to do later on.  Stop doing that.  It won’t get easier.  The assignment is going to be the same at a “later time.”  And honestly, if you push it off, it will get harder with the tight deadline you have created for yourself.  Don’t create more pressure for your situation! Remember your future. You never ever know what could come up!  Life is so unexpected.  If you put something off until “tomorrow” because you have time… that is not smart.  Something could come up tomorrow, like an emergency, that you’ll have to take care of and that “time” you thought you had, is no longer time that you can spend on whatever project it may be. Do it for your health. I touched on it with #1, but pushing things off and waiting until last minute often creates stress.  As you know, stress is not good for your health.  Not to mention, this type of stress is self-induced.  So just avoid it by not pushing things...
